Amish folk, Ohio

While driving across Ohio (USA) I was gobsmacked seeing these black horse drawn carriages, quite unexpectedly. As the driver is hidden within the cab it looks kind of spooky with a horse pulling a covered up windowed carriage. We'd come off the main highway by mistake and what a wonderful opportunity to see in a non tourist way these folk who live a very traditional life.

The Amish Pennsylvania DutchAmischGermanAmische), sometimes referred to as Amish Mennonites, are a group of Christian church fellowships that form a subgroup of the Mennonite churches. The Amish are known for simple livingplain dress, and reluctance to adopt many conveniences of modern technology. source http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amish

We had a closer look at the traffic lights. Inside was a father with a child. I noticed in a town square about 5 carriages gathered together, their occupants obviously exchanging conversation. Looked right out of a western movie.

I'm watching a series about the Amish, which is on UK tv...so, this is interesting. And...i have largely separated myself from the mania that is social media, e.g. facebook...and i grow food and am largely anti consumerism, which, taken together, i guess makes me a few per cent [at least] Amish. Strange but true! Thnx for the pics.

To complete the ensemble you need to buy a 'orse 'n cart, black of course with darken windows.
